The Great Gatsby Movie -- 1974 Robert Redford -- Party Scene

"There was music from [Gatsby's] house all through the summer nights. In his blue gardens men and girls came and went like moths among the whispering and the champagne and the stars. At high tide in the afternoon I watched his guests diving from the tower of his raft, or taking the sun on the hot sand of his beach while his two motor-boats slit the waters of the Sound, drawing aquaplanes over cataracts of foam. On week-ends his Rolls-Royce became omnibus, bearing parties to and from the city between nine in the morning and long past midnight, while his station wagon scampered like a brisk yellow bug to meet all trains. And on Mondays eight servants, including an extra gardener, toiled all day with mops and scrubbing brushed and hammers and garden-shears, repairing the ravages from the night before." (The Great Gatsby, pg. 39)

Jennifer Daydreamer's Cafe Bouchee is a unique painting that has many different types of people together. It looks as if they are at some sort of party. There are people dancing, dining, singing, and partying. This picture is very busy and very brightly colored. The painting relates to the book The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald's descriptions of Gatsby's parties are very similar to those in the painting. Gatsby throws extravagant parties that everyone wants to go to. Through his wealth, he shows everyone exactly how fun his late nights and early mornings can be. However, his parties and his wealth does not make him happy. He longs for love of his life; Daisy Buchanan. Cafe Bouchee acknowledges Gatsby's love for life and parties.
